APSIPA Grand Awards

In order to celebrate the APSIPA 10th Anniversary, we established the APSIPA Grand Award which is the highest annual award of APSIPA starting from 2018. The objective of this award is to show our great appreciation of those who contributed to APSIPA and has superior contributions/leadership in signal processing, information technology and communications.

Awardees of 2018:

  • Sadaoki Furui
    for Founding the APSIPA and Pioneering Contributions to Speech Signal Processing
  • K. J. Ray Liu
    for Founding the APSIPA, and Pioneering Contributions for the Advances of Signal Processing in Multimedia Forensics, Security, and Wireless Communications
  • Jose M. F. Moura
    for Leadership in the Collaboration between APSIPA and IEEE, and Pioneering Contributions to Graph Signal Processing

APSIPA Sadaoki Furui Prize Paper Award

The APSIPA Sadaoki Furui Prize Paper Award is awarded at APSIPA ASC each year based on selection from the papers published in the preceding five years. Nominations with supporting comments should be sent to Editor in Chief or VP-Publications, who co-chair the Award Commitee by August 1.

  • The first award was presented in APSIPA ASC 2016 to
    Simone Milani et al; for their paper "An Overview on Video Forensics".
  • The second award was presented in APSIPA ASC 2017 to
    Yoshinobu Kajikawa et al; for their paper "Recent advances on active noise control: open issues and innovative applications".
  • The third award was presented in APSIPA ASC 2018 to
    Chung-Hsien Wu et al; for their paper "Survey on audiovisual emotion recognition: databases, features, and data fusion strategies".
  • The 4th award was presented in APSIPA ASC 2019 to
    Sachin Chachada et al; for their paper "Environmental sound recognition: a survey".
  • The 5th award was presented in APSIPA ASC 2020 to
    Evangelos Alexiou et al; for their paper "A comprehensive study of the rate-distortion performance in MPEG point cloud compression".
  • The 6th award was presented in APSIPA ASC 2021 to
    Hiroshi Sawada et al; for their paper "A review of blind source separation methods: two converging routes to ILRMA originating from ICA and NMF".
  • The 7th award was presented in APSIPA ASC 2022 to
    Bin Wang et al; for their paper "Evaluating word embedding models: methods and experimental results".
  • The 8th award was presented in APSIPA ASC 2023 to
    Jinyu Li et al; for their paper "Recent advances in end-to-end automatic speech recognition".
  • The 9th award was presented in APSIPA ASC 2024 to
    Fenxiao Chen et al; for their paper "Graph representation learning: a survey".
  • The 10th awards were presented in APSIPA ASC 2025 to
    • Research paper award: Yuki Okamoto, Keisuke Imoto, Shinnosuke Takamichi, Ryosuke Yamanishi, Takahiro Fukumori, and Yoichi Yamashita, for their paper “Onoma-to-wave: environmental sound synthesis from onomatopoeic words", APSIPA Transactions on Signal and Information Processing, Vol. 11: No. 1, e13. 2022.

Mid-Career Excellence Award 2026

The Asia Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association (APSIPA) is delighted to announce the Mid-Career Excellence Award 2026, and we wish to draw your attention to this award.

Background

The Asia Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association (APSIPA) has announced the launch of a Mid-Career Excellence Award, recognizing the achievements of mid-career professionals in their field, starting in 2026.
Eligibility

  • The applicant must have at least 3 years of APSIPA membership;
  • The applicant must have held a PhD degree for 5-15 years; and
  • A significant part of the requirements, the applicant should have owned 2 papers in APSIPA ASC or at least 1 paper in APSIPA T-SIP as a corresponding author.

Timetable

  • The official call for entries is in March 2026;
  • The deadline for enrolment is in late April 2026;
  • The selection is in May 2026; and
  • The awards presentation is at APSIPA ASC.

There will be 0.3% of APSIPA members (3 or 4 per year) of the number of awards, and the awardees will give talks on the “Mid-Career Excellence Award” during the ASC.

The application period, nomination form, and more details will be posted soon and will be subject to the announcement issued by APSIPA.
